Mary G. Montgomery is 2-8 against Baker since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mary G. Montgomery Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the Baker Hornets at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Mary G. Montgomery beat Spanish Fort 59-50. Given Mary G. Montgomery's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Spanish Fort is ranked 159th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Baker proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 20) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Theodore 65-62. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Baker has posted against Theodore since January 14, 2022.
Baker got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dashawn Thomas out in front who went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Florence lll, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Mary G. Montgomery pushed their record up to 19-3 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points per game. As for Baker, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 19-7.
Mary G. Montgomery came up short against Baker in their previous meeting last Friday, falling 54-48. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Florence lll, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Now that Mary G. Montgomery knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
