Even though The Odessa Bronchos scored an imposing 49 points on Friday, the Frenship Tigers still came out on top. Frenship blew past Odessa 77-49 at home. Given Frenship's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Odessa is ranked 189th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hudson Hutcheson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 377 yards and four touchdowns while completing 90% of his passes, and also punching in two touchdowns on the ground. Hutcheson is on a roll when it comes to passing yards, as he's now passed for 300 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Hutcheson, who gained 169 total yards and three touchdowns.
Odessa's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mikey Cota, who threw for 347 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 71.8% of his passes. Cota is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Ivan Carreon was another key contributor, picking up 115 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
The win makes it two in a row for Frenship and bumps their season record up to 7-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Odessa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.
Frenship will head out on the road to face off against San Angelo Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Angelo Central has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since September 1. As for Odessa, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Midland Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Midland Legacy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Odessa likes a good challenge.
