If the Sunrise Mountain Miners were riding high off their 47-3 takedown of the Chaparral Cowboys last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Sunrise Mountain lost to the Pioneers at home by a decisive 59-43 margin on Wednesday. Sunrise Mountain was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pioneers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Several Miners players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Skye Warren, who scored 18 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Warren hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Delyla Ross, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Sunrise Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 15-11. As for Canyon Springs, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sunrise Mountain will square off against the Trailblazers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nevada (Durango is ranked 63rd, while the Miners are ranked 38th). As for Canyon Springs, they will head out on the road to challenge the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Foothill will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
