Softball Recap: Central Catholic Snags 15th Victory in Last 16 Games

Central Catholic was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Gregori on Saturday. The Raiders blew past the Jaguars 15-6. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 contests by six runs or more this season.

Central Catholic got a great performance from Braelyn Avila as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Avila has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Samantha Nichols was a standout: she fired off three triples, three runs, and two RBI while going 3-for-3. Those three triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmarie Roberts, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Central Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Gregori, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-7.

Central Catholic didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 16-5 win against Vacaville on the 26th. As for Gregori, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against Oakdale on the 26th.
