Baseball Recap: Rio Grande's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Rio Grande barely beat Albuquerque the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Ravens put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 15-3 victory on Tuesday. The Ravens might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by nine runs or more this season.

Sebastian Chavez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Chavez was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs. He has become a key player for Rio Grande: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Andrew Salas was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Lorenzo Martinez also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Rio Grande always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Albuquerque only posted an OBP of .348.

The win was the fifth in a row for Rio Grande, bringing their record up to 13-9. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Albuquerque, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season.

Coincidentally, Rio Grande and Albuquerque will both be playing Los Lunas the next time they take the field. The Ravens will host the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Bulldogs will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
