Naples Classical took a 70-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Donahue Catholic on Thursday. Naples Classical has struggled against Donahue Catholic recently, as their match on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Naples Classical's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jude Gillen, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Gillen scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shane Churchill, who scored 16 points.
Erling Berg continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Donahue Catholic, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds. Berg also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Isaac Loboda, who scored 11 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.
Naples Classical's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Donahue Catholic, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.
Naples Classical won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Seacrest Country Day at 5:30 p.m. on January 5th. Seacrest Country Day has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. As for Donahue Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against The Village School of Naples at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
