Baseball Recap: Cottondale Has No Trouble Against Poplar Springs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Madison County, Cottondale was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Poplar Springs Atomics with a sharp 17-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Justin Miller, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Alex Bellamy, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Miller wasn't the only one making solid contact: Cottondale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Cottondale pushed their record up to 11-11 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Poplar Springs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cottondale will venture away from home to take on Carroll at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Poplar Springs, they will head out to face off against Geneva County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
