Union City and Monroe Central are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Indians will challenge the Golden Bears at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Union City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Union City was able to grind out a solid victory over Cowan, taking the game 10-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Indians.
Kierra Thacker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emma Blankley and Oaklee Reichard did most of the damage at the plate: Blankley went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Reichard went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Blankley has posted since back in May of 2024. Gabrielle Ordonez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Union City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Monroe Central lost 18-1 to Centerville on Thursday. The Golden Bears haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Laura Walker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and earned one run and three stolen bases.
Union City's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Monroe Central, their loss dropped their record down to 1-15.
Monroe Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Union City has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Monroe Central, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Union City keep running through batters, or will the Golden Bears buck the trend?
