If The Desert Christian Academy Conquerors were feeling good off their 34-12 takedown of the Vasquez Mustangs last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Desert Christian Academy was beaten by Maranatha 56-22 on Friday. Desert Christian Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-0.
When it comes to explaining why Desert Christian Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elijah Mawhiney. Despite the final result, he rushed for 93 yards on only 11 carries, and also picked up 33 receiving yards. Mawhiney's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Dylan Smith got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Maranatha's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Miles Omalley led the charge by rushing for 124 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Omalley is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Dejohn Jones was another key contributor, rushing for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Desert Christian Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Maranatha, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Desert Christian Academy will head out on the road to face off against Hamilton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hamilton is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. Maranatha will take on Whittier Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Whittier Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
