The Fort Morgan Mustangs will stay at home for another game and welcome the Frederick Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Fort Morgan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 254th, while Frederick is ranked 44th).
Fort Morgan suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2023 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Thompson Valley 69-29. Fort Morgan has not had much luck with Thompson Valley recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Fort Morgan's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ava Taylor, who scored six points along with six rebounds and four blocks, and Shaelynn Ramirez who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 11 games she's played.
Meanwhile, Frederick came tearing into Tuesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 55-50 win over Mountain View.
Gabby Jima and Zoe Wittler were among the main playmakers for Frederick as the former scored 14 points along with two steals and the latter scored 18 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jima has scored all season. Kaylee Gardner was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Fort Morgan's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Frederick, their win bumped their record up to 11-4.
Fort Morgan took a serious blow against Frederick in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 85-14. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Frederick's Emma Rivera, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
