Volleyball Recap: California Comes Up Short

California was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the San Ramon Valley Wolves, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Grizzlies of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

California couldn't get the win, but they sure gave San Ramon Valley a tough time in the first set. The final score came out to 30-28, 25-22, 25-13.

Despite the loss, California saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Beau Banta had nine digs and two aces. Banta has been hot for a while, having also posted 13 or more assists the last 11 times he's played. Jathin Chandhra Ravilla also deserves some recognition as he had his first dig of the season.

California's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for San Ramon Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. California is set to face off against their familiar foe Dougherty Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, San Ramon Valley will challenge rival De La Salle at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. San Ramon Valley is on a four-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), De La Salle a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
