Even though the Chatham Charter Knights have not done well against the Uwharrie Charter Eagles recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Chatham Charter came out on top in a nail-biter against Uwharrie Charter and snuck past 59-57. Given Chatham Charter's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Uwharrie Charter is ranked 297th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Chatham Charter to victory were Meah Brooks and Hannah Headen. Brooks scored 15 points, while Headen scored 28 points along with 5 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Brooks has scored at least 25% of Chatham Charter's points. Another player making a difference was Delana Loflin, who scored 9 points.
Despite the defeat, Uwharrie Charter saw an underclassman step up: Alyvia Spinks scored 11 points along with 8 rebounds. Nevaeh Staples was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with 8 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Uwharrie Charter were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chatham Charter only posted two.
Chatham Charter has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 7-1 record. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 25.33 points. As for Uwharrie Charter, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chatham Charter will challenge Eastern Randolph at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Uwharrie Charter, they will head out on the road to face off against Asheboro at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Asheboro focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday.
