Make it four blowout wins for the Quitman County Hornets this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Furlow Charter School 70-35 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Quitman County has posted since November 10, 2023.
Furlow Charter School lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Enrique Retana, who scored seven points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Retana has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Thompkins, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Quitman County's win bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Furlow Charter School, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Quitman County and Early County will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Early County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday. Furlow Charter School won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lamar County at 3:30 p.m. on January 20th. Lamar County is on a five-game streak of home losses, Furlow Charter School a 17-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
