Basketball Recap: Gibault Catholic Comes Up Short

If Gibault Catholic was riding high fresh off their 37-13 takedown of Metro-East Lutheran last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gibault Catholic Hawks took a 55-38 bruising from the East Alton-Wood River Oilers on Saturday. The Hawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Oilers from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Gibault Catholic still got an impressive performance from Karmon Grohmann, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance gave Grohmann a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kamille Grohmann, who posted four points and three steals.

Gibault Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for East Alton-Wood River, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-13 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gibault Catholic will welcome Roxana at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for East Alton-Wood River, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Columbia at 6:00 p.m.
