The Green Hope Falcons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They fell 46-37 to Green Level. While losing is never fun, Green Hope can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Green Level is ranked 62nd).
Green Hope's loss came despite strong showings from Abigail Brown and Uma Surkund. Brown dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Surkund scored 11 points. That was a full 35.1% of Green Hope's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Tomanska, who scored five points along with two blocks.
Green Level's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Talia Austin, who scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Austin has scored all season. Deana Prasad was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Green Hope has not been sharp recently as the team has lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Green Level, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Green Hope will stay at home for another game and welcome Apex at 6:30 p.m. on February 13th. Green Level will take on Middle Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Green Level is on a four-game streak of home wins, Middle Creek a eight-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
