League recap: Clare extends winning streak with victory over Beaverton

Clare extended the longest winning streak in Jack Pine this week by beating Beaverton, 36-14. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.

Roscommon made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,501 from 8,910. The improvement was the result of 38-28 victory over Meridian last week.

Clare's dynamic duo of Zack Tyler and Hunter Ruby proved tough for the Beavers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Tyler threw for 114 yards and two touchdowns and Ruby had 57 yards receiving. Brock Swan helped Clare's passing attack out by catching two balls for 29 yards.

Landon Grove provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Gladwin defeated Houghton Lake. He completed six passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 144 yards. Grove's favorite target this week was Austin Lagalo, who caught three passes for 49 yards.

Brett Jobin was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 185 yards as the Bucks bested Beaverton. Teammate John Miller added to the ground attack by rushing for 92 yards.

The Flying G's' Grove and Demetri Trice have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Grove has thrown for 1166 yards this season, while Trice, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 23 catches for 583 yards. Jobin from Roscommon leads the league in rushing with 1005 yards.

Gladwin's Grove needs only 80 yards against Standish-Sterling next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Grove has rushed for 920 yards on 134 carries so far this year.

A big matchup in Jack Pine this week will be when the Pioneers take on Joe Holloway's team. At the moment, Clare is in second, while the Bucks are in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Pioneers take on Roscommon. Clare has allowed 103 points this season, while the Bucks have given up 157. The Pioneers allowed 14 points last week as they beat Eric Kern's team.
