The Colonial Grenadiers will face off against the Tohopekaliga Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Colonial has given up an average of 12.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Colonial lost 14-4 to Lyman on Friday. The Grenadiers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ayanee Lopez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Joaneli Garcia, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Tohopekaliga won against Windermere Prep last Tuesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Tigers beat Osceola by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-3. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Maria Santiago made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Santiago was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Anaya Josue was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Valentina Fontanez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Tohopekaliga kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Colonial now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Tohopekaliga, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Colonial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tohopekaliga struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Colonial suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Tohopekaliga in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Grenadiers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
