Rio Grande and Eldorado are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Ravens will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Rio Grande sitting on nine straight victories and Eldorado on seven.
While Rio Grande's win against West Mesa wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Ravens sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over the Mustangs on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Ravens have posted against the Mustangs since March 16, 2019.
Luis Guillen and Logan Reed did most of the damage at the plate: Guillen went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Reed went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave Reed a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reyes Martinez, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Rio Grande was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Mesa only posted a batting average of .231.
Meanwhile, Eldorado made easy work of Santa Fe on Saturday and carried off a 15-5 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Nathaniel Jaramillo, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. He also put up a stolen base, which was his first of the season. Eric Yturbe was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Rio Grande's record is now 17-8. As for Eldorado, their record now sits at 22-4.
Rio Grande's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. The Ravens have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Eldorado, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Rio Grande continue to outrun the ball?
Rio Grande couldn't quite get it done against Eldorado when the teams last played back in February as they fell 8-3. Can the Ravens avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
