The Burwell Longhorns entered their tilt with the Twin Loup Wolves with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Burwell walked away with a 43-36 victory over Twin Loup on Tuesday. This was payback for Burwell, who suffered a 54-26 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Kaitlyn Hughes was nothing short of spectacular: she scored 18 points along with three steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for 16 straight games. Ericka Larsen was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five steals.
Several Wolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cassidy Grint, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Glidden, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Burwell's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. As for Twin Loup, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burwell will stay at home for another game and welcome Sandhills/Thedford on February 1st. Sandhills/Thedford knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Burwell likes a good challenge. As for Twin Loup, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Anselmo-Merna at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Twin Loup focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
