Last Friday, Lincoln Southeast really took it to Columbus for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-31 win at home. Given Lincoln Southeast's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Columbus is ranked 250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kendall Hinton was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Deng Giet, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lincoln North Star scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Buena Vista 72-22 at home. That looming 72-22 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Lincoln North Star yet this season.
Lincoln North Star found their leader in underclassman Jordan Castor, who scored 14 points along with eight steals and five assists. The matchup was Castor's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Goay Gatwech, who scored 12 points.
Lincoln Southeast now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Lincoln North Star, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's match: Lincoln Southeast have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.6 threes per game. However, it's not like Lincoln North Star struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.4 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
