Piedmont Community Charter is 0-4 against Concord Academy since April of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Piedmont Community Charter Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Concord Academy Eagles at 4:00 p.m.
After dropping their season opener at home, Concord Academy is headed out to face a Patriots squad ready to give their home crowd a win. Piedmont Community Charter fell just short of Hickory Grove Christian by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday.
Sophie Gibson put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Gibson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Chloe Rae Baker and Reagan Swanger did some serious damage despite the final result: Baker scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while Swanger scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Bailee Roper, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Concord Academy had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They had just enough and edged out Greater Cabarrus S 8-6. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Like Piedmont Community Charter, Concord Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Caisyn Berg. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. That's the fewest hits Berg has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Milee Amburn, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Zoe Williams was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4.
Piedmont Community Charter might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Concord Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024.
