The Chicago Academy Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Farragut Admirals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chicago Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Things were looking good for Chicago Academy after they put the first runs on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of Westinghouse. On the bright side, the ten- run performance marked the Cougars' highest-scoring game to date.
Josh Casillas was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Casillas was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those RBI were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Alessandro Vera was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-5. That run was his first of the season. Dante Felix was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Farragut got the win against Steinmetz College Prep on Monday by a conclusive 25-1. The Admirals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Like Chicago Academy, Farragut also got a great game from a two-way player: Ben DeMateo. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. DeMateo also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Farragut is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. DeMateo was also big at the plate, scoring four runs while going 4-for-5. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yoel Guerra, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. He also snagged two stolen bases, which is notable because Farragut is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Robert DeMateo, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Farragut kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Steinmetz College Prep only managed two hits.
Chicago Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Farragut, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Chicago Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Farragut struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Chicago Academy might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Farragut in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
