Softball Recap: Calumet Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

Calumet won the last time they faced Westwood and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Copper Kings put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 13-3 win. Considering the Copper Kings have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Bethany Garrow, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Molly Erkkila, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Calumet has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Westwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

The future could be bright for both Calumet and Westwood: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Copper Kings will look to extend L'Anse's five-game losing streak when they meet at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Westwood will try to hand Gwinn their seventh-straight loss when the two meet at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
