5A Centennial recap November 5, 2013
Cherry Creek added to the longest winning streak in 5A Centennial this week by beating Lakewood, 52-12. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Bruins.
Overland and Rangeview played the closest game in the league this week, with Overland eventually emerging with a 19-16 victory. Austin Conway threw for 164 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 148 yards during the win.
Chukwuma Obinnah was a beast in the backfield as Grandview beat Prairie View.
Conway provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Trailblazers topped the Raiders. Conway's favorite target this week was Khalil Jenkins, who caught 6 passes for 92 yards.
Cameron Knight was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Wolves topped the Thunderhawks. The 5-foot-11 junior recorded 1 fumble.
Aric Johnson threw for 134 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 12-20 with 2 interceptions.
Obinnah was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 215 yards as Grandview beat Rangeview. Ben Marshall also contributed to the rushing game with 75 yards on the ground.
Leading 5A Centennial in both passing and receiving yards, Seth Replogle's team's Conway and Jenkins have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Conway has thrown for 1,847 yards this season, while Jenkins has 41 catches for 747 yards. Cherokee Trail's Cameron Smith leads the league in rushing yards with 1,221.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Trailblazers and Cherry Creek. Overland enters the contest ranked 16th in the state, while Dave Logan's team ranks third.
Going into this week's game against the Bruins, the Trailblazers' Conway needs 153 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
John Schultz's team took down Prairie View 47-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Obinnah ran for 215 yards in the win.
