Bradley Day was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).
In other batting news, Travis Head was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dalton Churchwell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Ponce De Leon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .524 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Baker never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Pleasant Home with a sharp 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Riley Renfro made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Renfro was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Wyatt Straight was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Maddox Smith was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Baker's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ponce De Leon, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Ponce De Leon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Baker struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Ponce De Leon came up short against Baker when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 7-4. Will Ponce De Leon have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
