Basketball Recap: Muhlenberg County Falls Despite Big Games from Izzy Wilkins and Taylor Wilkins

Muhlenberg County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. The match between them and the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons didn't end well, with the Muhlenberg County Mustangs falling 67-50. The Mustangs were not able to make up for their loss to the Maroons from their previous meeting back in January of 2023.

Taylor Wilkins and Izzy Wilkins certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Taylor dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Izzy went 6 of 8 on her way to 18 points and eight boards. With that strong performance, Taylor is now averaging an impressive 8.7 rebounds per game.

Muhlenberg County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Madisonville-North Hopkins, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Muhlenberg County will head out to square off against Hopkinsville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Hopkinsville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Madisonville-North Hopkins, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Murray at 7:00 p.m. on December 28th.
