The Commerce Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the George Walton Academy Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Commerce comes in on five and George Walton Academy on three.
Even though Commerce has not done well against Banks County recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Commerce came out on top against Banks County by a score of 50-42.
It was another big night for Malay Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Commerce's points. Raven Parks was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 8 rebounds.
Meanwhile, George Walton Academy strolled past Prince Avenue Christian with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 61-45. Given George Walton Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Prince Avenue Christian is ranked 328th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ashley Hill continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 7-for-11 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 27 points and 14 rebounds. The game was her sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Khyler Hannay, who scored 11 points.
Their wins bumped Commerce to 5-2 and Banks County to 3-3.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Commerce have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 32.4% of their threes per game. However, it's not like George Walton Academy struggles in that department as they've drained 46.2% of theirs this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
Commerce might still be hurting after the 47-26 defeat they got from George Walton Academy when the teams last played back in November. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of George Walton Academy's Hill, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds. Now that Commerce knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
