For the second year in a row, head coach Anthony Grant and Alabama have landed a five-star prospect late in the recruiting process.
Last May, it was talented in-state guard Trevor Lacey of
Butler (Huntsville).
Six-foot-seven forward
Devonta Pollard of
Kemper County (DeKalb, Miss.) is the prize this time around. He announced his decision during a news conference at the school early Friday evening.
Pollard, who averaged 23.8 points, 15.7 rebounds and 5.1 blocked shots per game as a senior, was the final five-star prospect in the 2012 class yet to announce his collegiate destination. He helped Kemper County capture Mississippi's Class 3A state title was ranked No. 19 among all seniors nationally by MaxPreps.
The Crimson Tide beat out Georgetown, Missouri and Texas for Pollard's services. He is the only member of Alabama's 2012 recruiting class, but Grant has already secured 2013 pledges from post players
Shannon Hale and
Jimmie Taylor.
