The Kenmore West Blue Devils will face off against the Lewiston-Porter Lancers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Kenmore West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Kenmore West hadn't beaten North Tonawanda on the road since June 15, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Blue Devils had just enough and edged out the Lumberjacks 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blue Devils have posted against the Lumberjacks since May 5, 2022.
Dani Hatch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Hatch was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lily Foglia was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lewiston-Porter). They were the clear victors by a 19-12 margin over Lockport on Thursday. The Lancers not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25th (when they won 14-0).
Like Kenmore West, Lewiston-Porter also got a great game from a two-way player: Scarlett Sloma. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Sloma was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two triples, five RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lewiston-Porter got a massive performance out of Alyssa Dashineau, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Gianna Venditti was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Lewiston-Porter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Kenmore West is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Lewiston-Porter, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
Kenmore West skirted past Lewiston-Porter 5-4 when the teams last played last Wednesday. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
