The Franklin County Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Indianapolis Bishop Chatard Trojans at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Franklin County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday.
Franklin County posted their biggest victory yet this season on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hagerstown 67-15 on the road. Given Franklin County's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Hagerstown is ranked 404th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Franklin County can attribute much of their success to Madesyn Sunderhaus, who scored 21 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sunderhaus has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ruby Singer, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Indianapolis Bishop Chatard's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell to Roncalli 69-65. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mary Mason, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Berzai, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Franklin County's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Keep an eye on the arc in Saturday's matchup: Franklin County have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.3 threes per game. It's a different story for Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 threes per game. Given Franklin County's sizeable advantage in that area, Indianapolis Bishop Chatard will need to find a way to close that gap.
Franklin County beat Indianapolis Bishop Chatard 65-52 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Franklin County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
