The Castle Knights will head out on the road to take on the Daviess County Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Castle came out on top against Evansville North on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Knights walked away with an 8-5 win over the Huskies. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won three in a row.
Castle got a great performance from Bailey Gravens as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Emma Bruggenschmidt and Aubrey Baker did most of the damage at the plate: Bruggenschmidt went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Baker got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Jenna Smith also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Castle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Daviess County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Owensboro Catholic on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Aces 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Sadie Morris was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Annie Newman was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Daviess County is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Castle, their record now sits at 4-7.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Castle hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Daviess County struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
