The Rancho Verde Mustangs will challenge the Canyon Springs Cougars at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Rancho Verde is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Rancho Verde took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They skirted past Miller 7-5.
Jacob Cabral was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caden Coppola, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Diaz, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
Rancho Verde hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 11 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Canyon Springs entered their matchup against Alta Loma on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Cougars fell just short of the Lions by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Cougars couldn't push the score so high this time.
David Sedillo made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Rancho Verde pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Canyon Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rancho Verde hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Canyon Springs struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rancho Verde was able to grind out a solid victory over Canyon Springs when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 6-2. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
