Baseball Game Preview: Perry Commodores vs. Elgin Comets

Perry and Elgin are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Commodores will welcome the Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Perry lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Waynesfield-Goshen, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Commodores never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Monday. Six seems to be a good number for the Commodores as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Hunter Scott was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brodey Douce, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Perry is undefeated when Douce posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Taviano, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Perry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Elgin entered their tilt with Upper Scioto Valley on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 12-2 win.

Elgin's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Perry, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
