Sumner dropped to 4-3 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Plant Panthers, falling 11-5. If the Stingrays were looking for revenge after losing 10-1 to the Panthers when the teams met back in February of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

MATTHEW RANGEL put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other pitching news, Sumner got a good showing from JACKSON SALISBURY, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. SALISBURY has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, WINSTON PENNANT made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
As for Plant, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Considering they have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
On Plant's side, they gave COY KELLER the start and clearly made the right call: he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). KELLER has become a key player for the Panthers: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on GIO BENITEZ, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was WILL MEADE, who went 2-for-6 with two RBI and one run.
Coming up, Sumner will challenge East Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games the Indians have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Plant, they will take on Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dragons' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
