Basketball Recap: North Providence Piles Up the Points Against Central

North Providence won the last time they faced Central and things went their way on Wednesday too. The North Providence Cougars claimed a resounding 65-32 victory over the Central Knights. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 21 points or more this season.

Leading North Providence to victory were Riddhi Mistry and Makenna Heon. Mistry went 9 of 16 en route to 22 points along with eight boards and six assists, while Heon went 9 for 17 on her way to 20 points and seven steals. Mistry continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Elyse Brassard, who posted six points and 12 rebounds.

North Providence smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

North Providence has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points per game. As for Central, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Providence will square off against Prout at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Prout's defense has only allowed 24.4 points per game this season, so North Providence's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Central, they will challenge Central Falls/Blackstone Valley Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
