On Friday, the Snow Canyon Warriors faced the Pine View Panthers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Snow Canyon took down the Panthers 69-53. The win was nothing new for Snow Canyon as they're now sitting on four straight.
Owen Mackay continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 38 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Snow Canyon's points. Another player making a difference was Trey Kelsch, who scored five points along with eight assists and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Pine View lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nash Schroeder. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Schroeder hasn't dropped below 18 points for five straight games. Adam Moore was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Snow Canyon's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.4 points per game. As for Pine View, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Snow Canyon will face off against the Reds at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cedar will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Utah Rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Warriors are ranked 19th). Pine View is on the road again on Wednesday and plays the Flyers at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th. Dixie has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,015 points over their last 14 matchups.
