The Hesperia Scorpions entered their tilt with the Sultana Sultans with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Hesperia came out on top against Sultana by a score of 31-24 on Friday. Given Hesperia's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Sultana is ranked 335th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hesperia found their leader in underclassman Da'lon Williams, who rushed for 315 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Williams was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 67 yards. Zamar Malveaux also helped out as he racked up 109 rushing yards.
Hesperia's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Jacob Henry and his two sacks.
Despite the loss, Sultana still got an impressive performance from Jacob Higgs, who threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 87 yards. Joey Deleon was in the mix too, providing Sultana with two touchdowns.
Hesperia's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.2 points per game. As for Sultana, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Hesperia will look to defend their home field on Friday against Apple Valley at 7:00 p.m. Sultana does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
