Basketball Recap: Hyrum Ripa's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Victoria Cobra Homeschool over FBCHA

Victoria Cobra HomeSchool was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 49-45 heartbreaker at the hands of the FBCHA Eagles. The Cobra were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Victoria Cobra HomeSchool lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Hyrum Ripa, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 21 points and five boards. That was a full 46.7% of Victoria Cobra HomeSchool's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Jacob Johnson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Victoria Cobra HomeSchool smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Victoria Cobra HomeSchool's defeat dropped their record down to 7-16. As for FBCHA, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Victoria Cobra HomeSchool will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Fayetteville at 5:10 p.m. on February 4th. FBCHA will also get a bit of a break before their next game: they'll face off against Texas Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 28th.
