Bishop Diego is 0-10 against Grace since May of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Cardinals will head out to face off against the Lancers at 3:30 p.m. Bishop Diego will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Bishop Diego made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Foothill Tech, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 13-2 win on Tuesday. Considering the Cardinals have won five matchups by more than ten runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Tara Gregson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gregson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Bishop Diego got a massive performance out of Penny Carroll, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Sarah Fellers, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Grace, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Ventura 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.
Rosy Salazar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Ava Depew was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Lexi Bower also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Grace pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Diego, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 7-5.
Bishop Diego might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Grace in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
