Two dominant guards in Jazzy Frierson and Jordyn Adams are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hartsville Red Foxes will play host again and welcome the Fairfield Central Griffins, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Hartsville didn't have too much trouble with South Florence at home as they won 49-34. Given Hartsville's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while South Florence is ranked 89th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Frierson was her usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Another player making a difference was Brooke Mitchell, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Fairfield Central gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They breezed by Columbia on the road to the tune of 66-16. With that victory, Fairfield Central brought their scoring average up to 50.7 points per game.
Adams and Jazzlyn McMillan were among the main playmakers for Fairfield Central as the former scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and five assists and the latter dropped a double-double on 28 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Adams has scored at least a third of Fairfield Central's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamia Evans, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Hartsville is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Fairfield Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-9.
Thursday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Hartsville have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Fairfield Central, though, as they've been averaging only 13.5 rebounds per game.
