The Central City Bison came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 43-38 victory over Wood River. That's two games straight that Central City has won by exactly five points.
Central City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Addie Buhlke led the charge by scoring 15 points along with three steals. Buhlke hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Jerzie Schindler, who scored ten points.
Wood River lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Macie Peters, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals. Sidney Frear was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two blocks.
Even though they lost, Wood River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central City only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Central City is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Wood River, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-7.
Central City will look to defend their home court on Monday against Madison at 6:30 p.m. Madison will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 206th, while Central City is ranked 75th). As for Wood River, Wood River and Ord will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Ord focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday.
