Basketball Recap: Providence Hall Takes a Loss

If Providence Hall was riding high fresh off their 53-8 takedown of Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Providence Hall Patriots took a 52-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle on Tuesday. The Patriots were not able to make up for their loss to the Soaring Eagle from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Providence Hall still got an impressive performance from Ireland Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Anderson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilia Chiarenza, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Providence Hall smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Juan Diego Catholic found their leader in sophomore Ava Tita, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tita has scored all season. Olivia Fry was another key player, putting up seven points.

Providence Hall has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Juan Diego Catholic, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-13.

Providence Hall didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 74-20 defeat against Judge Memorial Catholic on the 23rd. As for Juan Diego Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 52-27 win against Summit Academy on the 23rd.
