The Fillmore Flashes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Hueneme. Fillmore was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Hueneme apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Fillmore lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaime Soto, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Soto is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Weslow, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Jacob Cunningham was the offensive standout of the match as he scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. Chris Juanillo was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with six assists and three steals.
Fillmore's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-14. As for Hueneme, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-13.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Channel Islands the next time they take the court. Hueneme will head out to face Channel Islands at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Fillmore will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
