Basketball Recap: Northfield Skates Past Standley Lake with Ease

On Tuesday, the Northfield Nighthawks humbled the Standley Lake Gators with a 66-35 victory. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-11.

Northfield was led to victory by Madison Bethel and Aliyah Herron. Bethel went 7 for 14 on her way to 18 points and seven steals, while Herron dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds gave Herron a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Nelson, who posted eight points and three steals.

Northfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sydney Martin, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 boards. Martin is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. Kameron Mireles-Ciancio was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine boards and four steals.

The win got Northfield back to even at 4-4. As for Standley Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 9-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northfield will face off against Mullen at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.9 points per game this season. As for Standley Lake, they will challenge Northglenn at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
