El Capitan has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Grossmont Foothillers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully El Capitan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Friday.
Last Friday, El Capitan was able to grind out a solid win over Santana, taking the game 60-47.
El Capitan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andy Novelo-Gerardo led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 21 rebounds. Novelo-Gerardo is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jason Wilson, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Grossmont's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Mount Miguel at home and fell 59-28. While losing is never fun, Grossmont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1049th, while Mount Miguel is ranked 410th).
El Capitan is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which lines up perfectly with their 15-5 record this season. As for Grossmont, they bumped their record down to 4-12 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
El Capitan was taken down by Grossmont 73-35 in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point El Capitan was down 47-13.
