It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Cheyenne Wells Tigers had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They snuck past Otis with a 66-60 victory. The win was familiar territory for Cheyenne Wells who now have five in a row.
Cheyenne Wells found their leader in underclassman Trey Scheler, who rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Scheler is absolutely dominating the solo tackle category: he's posted at least six every time he's taken the field this season. Ethen Garay also helped out as he racked up 100 rushing yards.
When it comes to explaining why Otis lost, one person who can't be blamed is Erick Thorn. Despite the final result, he picked up 87 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on only six carries. Austin Hornung did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 45 receiving yards.
Cheyenne Wells pushed their record up to 8-5 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.2 points per game. As for Otis, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-2.
Cheyenne Wells will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Stratton at 12:00 p.m. on November 24th. One thing working in Stratton's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last seven contests. Otis does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
