Pinecrest hasn't had much luck against Scotland recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Pinecrest Patriots will welcome the Scotland Fighting Scots at 6:00 p.m. Pinecrest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Pinecrest didn't have quite enough to beat Lee County and fell 8-6. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Amaris Welch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
Even though they lost, Pinecrest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Scotland came tearing into Monday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Cougars 3-1.
Avery Stutts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dawson Blue, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. She also launched a home run, marking her first of the season.
Scotland pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Pinecrest, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Scotland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pinecrest has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .514. It's a different story for Scotland, though, as they've only averaged .330. Will they be able to contain Pinecrest's hitters?
Pinecrest suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to Scotland in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Pinecrest avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
