Softball Game Preview: Neptune Scarlet Fliers vs. Red Bank Regional Bucs

Neptune hasn't had much luck against Red Bank Regional recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Scarlet Fliers are taking a road trip to square off against the Bucs at 10:00 a.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Monday.

Neptune is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Keyport with a sharp 21-11 win on Wednesday. With that victory, the Scarlet Fliers brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Kadidja Braxton made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gianna Massimino was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ja'Nyah Harris, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Meanwhile, Red Bank Regional had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They blew past the Green Wave 21-1. The result was nothing new for the Bucs, who have now won four games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Neptune's record now sits at 3-7-1. As for Red Bank Regional, their record is now 4-2.

Neptune suffered a grim 23-0 defeat to Red Bank Regional when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Scarlet Fliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
