Big Spring is a perfect 7-0 against Boiling Springs since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will head out to face off against the Bubblers at 4:00 p.m. Big Spring will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
Big Spring proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 16) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Greencastle-Antrim, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted against the Blue Devils since April 23, 2022.
Rilee Stewart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Victoria Rinaldi, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Kendall Boring-Gutshall was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Boiling Springs, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Shippensburg on Thursday.
Delaney Lawyer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Lawyer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Peyton Lawyer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabrielle Vonstein, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Big Spring pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Boiling Springs, their record is now 9-10.
Boiling Springs' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Big Spring has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Boiling Springs, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Big Spring's sizable advantage in that area, the Bubblers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Big Spring took their win against Boiling Springs in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 18-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
