Basketball Recap: Lutheran-Northeast Skates Past Homer with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Lutheran-Northeast over Homer in every quarter on their way to victory on Monday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Lutheran-Northeast Eagles blew the Homer Knights out of the water with a 73-28 final score. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Knights are ranked 259th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lutheran-Northeast's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was D'Artagnan Taylor, who en route to 16 points and five rebounds. Taylor is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cole Lawless, who to rack up 16 points.

Lutheran-Northeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Homer's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Axton Caskey, who on his way to 13 points in addition to seven boards and three steals, and Junius Snowball, who posted three points. What's more, Caskey also posted a 42% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024.

Lutheran-Northeast is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.9 points over those games. Homer's loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-20.

Lutheran-Northeast didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-61 defeat against Norfolk Catholic on the 25th. Homer does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
